About Soundgarden

Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Scott Sundquist was brought in to play drums in 1985 so that Cornell could focus solely on vocals. Sundquist was soon replaced on drums by Matt Cameron in 1986. Yamamoto left in 1989 and was replaced initially by Jason Everman and shortly thereafter by Ben Shepherd. Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 and reformed in 2010. Following Cor...

About This Footage

In the dimly lit recesses of a London club, a rare glimpse into Soundgarden's final years can be found. The footage, captured in May 2014, is a snippet from an album pre-launch party for Nick Warren's remix of their music. It's a fleeting moment, lasting just over a minute, but one that offers a unique perspective on the band's state of mind as they prepared to release new material.

At this point, Soundgarden had been reunited for nearly four years, having reformed in 2010 after a decade-long hiatus. The band's return was met with excitement from fans and critics alike, but it was clear that Chris Cornell's voice was not what it once was. His distinctive growl and wail were still present, but they seemed to be strained, as if the years of disuse had taken their toll.

The Soundgarden album in question is likely "King Animal", which was released in November 2012 to mixed reviews. While some praised the band's return to form, others felt that Cornell's voice was a major liability. The remixes and reworkings by Nick Warren, an English DJ and producer, were perhaps an attempt to breathe new life into the material.

The Soundgarden of this era is often seen as a shadow of its former self, a band struggling to recapture the magic of their earlier days. But in this brief clip, there's a sense of energy and camaraderie that's hard to ignore. The band members are laughing and joking with each other, and the crowd is clearly enthusiastic.

It's worth noting that Soundgarden's reunion was not without its challenges. Cornell had spoken publicly about his struggles with voice problems, and the band's return was marked by a sense of uncertainty. But despite these issues, they continued to tour and record music until their eventual breakup in 2017.

The footage itself is a rare find, offering a glimpse into the inner workings of Soundgarden during this period. It's a small but significant piece of history, one that will likely appeal to fans of the band and those interested in the behind-the-scenes machinations of rock music.

As you watch this clip, you can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the band's earlier days. The raw energy and intensity that defined their live performances is still present, even if it's not as polished or refined as it once was. It's a reminder that even in decline, Soundgarden remained a force to be reckoned with, a testament to the enduring power of their music.

The clip ends abruptly, leaving you wanting more. But it's a fitting conclusion to this brief glimpse into Soundgarden's final years. It's a reminder that even in the most fleeting moments, there's always something to be learned about the artists and their music.
