50 years ago, deep in the Welsh countryside, two brothers were milking cows and preparing to take over the family farm - but dreamed of making music. They had the audacious idea to build a studio in their farmhouse attic and record their own tunes. Inadvertently, they had launched the world’s first independent residential recording studio: Rockfield. Black Sabbath, Queen, Robert Plant, Iggy Pop, Simple Minds, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Coldplay and many more artists made mayhem and music at Rockfield over the decades. This is a story of rock and roll dreams intertwined with a family business’s fight for survival in the face of an ever changing music landscape. About This Footage

In the verdant heart of Wales, a humble farmhouse nestled in the Wye Valley has been the unlikely birthplace of some of rock's most iconic sounds. Rockfield Studios, founded by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward in 1963, is more than just a recording studio - it's a testament to the power of creative risk-taking and the indomitable spirit of music.

At the time this footage was filmed, Rockfield had already been a hub for musical innovation for decades. The likes of Black Sabbath, Queen, and Robert Plant had all passed through its doors, leaving behind a trail of sonic masterpieces that continue to inspire generations of musicians. But what makes this clip so remarkable is the glimpse it offers into the studio's early days - when two young brothers dared to dream big.

In 1963, music was still in its nascent stages, and the concept of a residential recording studio would have seemed audacious even to seasoned industry insiders. Yet Kingsley and Charles Ward saw an opportunity to create something truly unique: a space where artists could come to record their music without the constraints of commercial studios. And so, Rockfield was born - a pioneering venture that would go on to shape the course of rock history.

This footage is rare because it offers a candid look at the studio's early days, when the brothers were still navigating the challenges of building a business from scratch. We see them working tirelessly to create a space that would become synonymous with creativity and innovation - a place where the likes of Iggy Pop, Simple Minds, and Oasis would later come to make some of their most iconic recordings.

What's striking about this clip is its sense of intimacy and immediacy. We're not just watching footage of a studio; we're being invited into the Ward brothers' world - a world of music, family, and determination. As they work tirelessly to bring their vision to life, we get a glimpse of the passion and dedication that would drive Rockfield's success for decades to come.

Watching this clip is like stepping into a time capsule - one that whisks us away to an era when rock music was still in its formative stages. We see the brothers' infectious enthusiasm as they work on building their studio, and we're reminded of the power of creative vision to shape the world around us. As the years have passed, Rockfield has become a byword for excellence - but this footage reminds us that it all began with two young men who dared to dream big.

In the end, what makes this clip so significant is its reminder that music is often at its most powerful when it's raw and unbridled. The Ward brothers' story is one of creative risk-taking and innovation - a testament to the enduring spirit of rock and roll. As we watch them work tirelessly to build their studio, we're reminded that even in the face of uncertainty, art can thrive. And as the music swells and the cameras pan out, we're left with an image that will stay with us long after the credits roll: a small farmhouse in Wales, where two brothers dared to dream big - and changed the course of rock history forever.
