Don't Be Afraid To Change Thomas Hal Robson Kanu

So people often ask me about change and some of the core principles of business and investing success. There was a great example at our recent tech and ecommerce conference in London. I interviewed the awesome Thomas Hal Robson Kanu. He was a professional footballer who played in the Premier League and played for Wales at international level. He now owns a very successful family run business called the Turmeric company. In my opinion, they provide the highest quality fresh liquid supplements on the market. It’s rare that somebody coming from the world of football can start and grow a very successful business in a totally different field and it was an inspiration to the audience. My own background has gone through lots of different evolutions. From being an employee in my teens and early twenties, to starting my first business 30 years ago. Since then I have had and have invested in lots of different businesses that include but are not to the following sectors in chronological order: Graphic design Outdoor pursuits Construction Management consulting Mentoring and coaching Dropshipping Residential property investing - HMO’s, single lets, Air BnB, UCI fund Residential property development and land - UK and eastern Europe Franchising - property investing with 400 franchise partners Paint protection system Call centre Commercial property - serviced offices Commercial property - bar and restaurant Ecommerce Ecommerce franchise with 100 franchise partners Digital marketing agency Talent recruitment agency Angel investment fund Data analytics platform Mental health technology Now I would not recommend that most people start or invest into such a diverse range of businesses as I have done. The pros of doing so give me a depth and breadth of experience that is immensely valuable when I join the Boards of our investee companies or operate as a non-executive Chairman of other businesses. Whatever stage that you're at in your life, if you're not succeeding with what you're doing, or you're not happy with what you're doing, don't be afraid to change direction, because it's possible. It's not easy, but it's definitely possible and the principles of success, whatever field of endeavour that you're in are the same You need to do what you enjoy and what you are good at, have mentors, work hard, surround yourself with a capable values-aligned team and keep learning by making mistakes, picking yourself up and trying again. Change is not always easy or comfortable but it is possible. Do you agree?
