The Church of Rock - Listen live Sunday nights from 7-9 @ kskq.org The Reverend Derek Moody interviews the legendary Ron Asheton Recorded 07/18/2003 Being a long time Iggy Pop & The Stooges fan, I couldn't believe it when I was able to score the home phone number for Ron Asheton, original Stooges guitar man, and one half of the infamous & legendary Asheton Brothers (aka The Dum Dum boys). I now forget how I obtained Ron's number, but at the time I was working full time as a radio DJ from 6pm to Midnight Monday thru Friday, producing & hosting my Church Of Rock radio show, in Bloomington-Normal Illinois at WIHN radio. (aka I-Rock) The show was getting killer ratings and I was given a lot of freedom, for a guy working in corporate/commercial FM radio. I called Ron Asheton one evening, at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan and opened up communication with him, actually becoming friendly with him. How cool!! He offered, as you'll hear during the phone chat here, to have me mail him some Iggy & The Stooges photos to get autographed by the band...but I admit that I failed to do so and I now regret it. I dropped the ball. Oops. I'm the dum dum boy? Yep. But I'm grateful that Ron consented to a short phone interview. He was very cool & laid back, as you'll hear. Down the road, after the interview, Iggy & The Stooges embarked on a batch reunion tours. I saw quite a few shows on the tours (with Ron Asheton on guitar & later with James Williamson on guitar, after Ron died. RIP) and the first reunion show in Chicago was SO amazing. Sister Tracy and I got to meet Ron & his brother Scott "Rock Action" Asheton before the show. No one else in the long line outside the venue even noticed the Asheton Brothers when they walked by us, entering the venue for soundcheck. Ron & Scott were kind enough to take the time to take photos with us before soundcheck. They also signed Tracys white shirt (and later that night, after the show, Iggy signed the same shirt. She still has it) After the show, Iggy came out & we got a quick photo with him. You can see it here. Tracy is looking like a deer in head lights, standing next to Iggy & Im looking pissed off because I was behind Iggy & not next to him. (Ha!) All Chicago photos of Ron & Scott by Bloody F. Mess/Rev. Derek Moody & Tracy McCloud Thanks for watching/listening. Please sunscribe to The Church Of Rock You Tube channel, & please click the bell icon for all future notifications. (LOTS of VERY cool stuff is coming to this YouTube channel very soon) - Rev. Derek Moody
