So it took 36 1/2 years for me to get around to seeing Y & T a second time, and it proved to be a worthwhile decision. Dave Meniketti has held it all together exceptionally well as the line-up evolved, and the band played a long and energetic set in Kansasville WI right prior to the onset of this pandemic b******t. I'd kind of given up on alot of 80s hair metal once the "power ballad" became common and my gag reflex became uncontrollable, but as an unintended consequence I disregarded all of the great stuff these guys had to offer that was straight up heavy rock-n-roll. What's here are two versions of "Mean Streak" (hence, the "2x" in the title. Also my t-shirt size, btw, but my Mean Streak T is long since lost). It is one of those great heavy tunes. Regrettably, the sound on both is less than stellar. The first (with video) is from the aforementioned Kansasville show (I didn't even know we had a Kansasville before being told about this show). The second version is audio only from the show 36 1/2 years prior when Y & T opened for Dio at the Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee. As will be noted (surprise about to be ruined) is that show fell on bass player Phil Kennemore's 30th birthday. RIP acknowledgement to the original members who played that gig and have passed on: Kennemore, Joey Alves, and Leonard Haze. Aaron Leigh, John Nymann, and Mike Vanderhule, respectively, have stepped in and filled their shoes admirably. This outfit still rocks. Thanks to the Florida dude who used to live in my neck of the woods and who told me about this at the Janesville Cold Kingdom show the night before.
