January 26, 2008: the final Saturday afternoon jam at the barbershop owned by Piedmont Blues great Archie Edwards in Washington, DC. For 10 years after Archie's death in 1998, the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation continued the tradition of weekly blues jams at the original barbershop. In 2008, the jams relocated to Riverdale Park, MD and in 2019, moved to Hyattsville, MD.
About Archie Edwards
Archie L. Edwards (September 4, 1918 – June 18, 1998) was an American Piedmont blues guitarist, who in a sporadic career spanning several decades worked with Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, and John Jackson. His best-known recordings are "Saturday Night Hop", "The Road Is Rough and Rocky", and "I Called My Baby Long Distance".
