Beck - Sissyneck - San Francisco, Live, Outside Lands Night Show Thurs. 8-9-12, 1st row, at Bimbo's 365 Club. Beck: "Feels like a smoke machine in here..." he said as the small club began to fill up with smoke. Beck played a surprise warm-up show the night before OSL. He also forgot the first set of lyrics to this song, lol. Other Tidbits: At ~0:48, after singing the song's opening lines "I don't need no wheels / I don't need no gasoline / Cause the wind that is blowing / Is blowing like a smoke machine" Beck joked that it "...feels like a smoke machine in HERE." :P Later in the set, during 'Lost Cause', Beck improvised some more humorous lyrics to comment on being amazed at how much smoke was filling the club, despite being fully aware that he is in San Francisco, lol. He then joked that ~"if you feel the tempo of the song is a little slower than usual, you know why.." After a lengthy series of humorous banter with the crowd, Beck realized that he lost track of where he was in the song. So he asked bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen (JMJ) "should we just go to the chorus?" And so they did, as the audience laughed loudly.. :P This Outside Lands Night Show was announced just ~4 hours before it was going to be on sale and it sold out within a minute. Tickets were being scalped for ~$125. It actually turned out to be more than worth the money, as Beck threw his pick to me at the end of the show, and security gave me one of JMJ's picks and a setlist. And as I mentioned in the Napa concert, throughout the entire show Beck only uses one pick! And once again, the merchandise table had Debra Tote Bags, but 'Debra' was never played, lol. The lyrics to 'Bad Blood (Version 8)', a new song and only the 2nd time performed, and Barstool Blues by Neil Young were taped to the floor and mic stand, respectively. Neil Young is performing the same day as Beck on the same stage, so maybe there will be a duo, like they had at the Bridge School Benefit. Setlist: 1. Black Tambourine 2. Novacane 3. Soul of a Man 4. Sissyneck 5. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (Bob Dylan cover) 6. Hotwax 7. Modern Guilt 8. Think I'm In Love 9. Bad Blood (Second time ever performed, "Version 8") 10. The Golden Age 11. Lost Cause 12. Pay No Mind 13. Dead Melodies * 14. Already Dead * 15. Sunday Sun 16. Jack-Ass 17. Soldier Jane 18. Gamma Ray 19. Barstool Blues (Neil Young cover) (1st time performed, played without rehearsal) 20. Girl 21. Where It's At Encore: 22. Loser 23. Mutherfuker 24. E-Pro * Skipped due to time constraints
