"My Daddy Rocks Me" Tampa Red's Hokum Jazz Band with Frankie "Half Pint" Jaxon vocal
When I was in the 6th grade I started going over to girl's houses to play and listen to records. Before I went though the girl's fathers would call me on the phone and say, "I don't want you bringing over any of those dirty nasty Elvis Presley Rock and Roll records. I don't want my daughter listening to trash like that!" I would reply, "Sir, don't worry, I am not going to bring over any rock and roll records of any kind". So I would bring over my 78 of My Daddy Rocks Me by Tampa Red's Hokum Jazz band with Frankie Jaxon vocal. I used to look for ANY 78 with a vocal by Frankie Jaxon because I liked his singing and how he spoke to the musicians. One time I found a Black Patti 78 by Frankie Jaxon in a thrift store for a penny. I later sold it for over $1,000. Not a bad profit. So... I go over to the girls house and the girl's father meets me at the door and says, "You didn't bring over any of those dirty rock and roll records did you". I said, "No sir, I would never play any rock and roll record for your daughter." Then I come in and the girl comes to listen to the record I brought and I put on my 78 of "My Daddy Rocks Me" sung by Frankie Half Pint Jaxon on her record player. Not 30 seconds into the record the girl's father yells at me, "Take that filthy record and get out of my house." I reply, "What he heck are you complaining about man, I did just what you said. I didn't bring over any rock and roll records. What's the matter with you? Don't you like good music like "My Daddy Rocks Me"? I sure never got invited to that girl's house again. I have added another Cat cartoon from the Record Changer magazine but it is not my favorite cartoon. There is one that is my favorite I will add to a recording I will upload later. My alternate caption for this one was, "You asked me what is that blob floating around in the air. It is the very first jazz musician on earth. A hip amoeba."
