About This Footage

This is a rare TV appearance by The Gallows Pole, captured in a moment of raw emotion that still resonates today.

The Gallows Pole was a critically acclaimed British folk-rock band known for their poignant songwriting and soaring vocal harmonies. Formed in the early 2010s, they quickly gained a loyal following with their debut album, "Songs from the North", which explored themes of love, loss, and social justice. By the time this footage was filmed, they had already established themselves as one of the most exciting new acts on the UK folk scene.

The clip in question is a live performance of an unreleased song, captured during a TV appearance on BBC iPlayer. The title "When your ex is back and you're not exactly happy about it" hints at the emotional complexity that defined much of their music. This particular performance stands out for its raw, unbridled energy – the band members are visibly moved by the lyrics, their voices cracking with emotion as they pour their hearts onto the stage.

What makes this footage so significant is the glimpse it offers into the creative process of a band at the height of their powers. The Gallows Pole was known for pushing boundaries and taking risks in their music, often incorporating elements of traditional folk into their more contemporary soundscapes. This performance showcases their ability to craft songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

The context surrounding this clip is equally fascinating. By the time it was filmed, The Gallows Pole had already gained a reputation for their intense live shows, which often featured extended improvisations and audience participation. Their music was characterized by its emotional intensity, with lyrics that explored themes of love, loss, and social justice. This performance captures the band at a pivotal moment in their career, as they were beginning to make waves on the UK folk scene.

One of the most striking aspects of this footage is the way it humanizes the band members. Rather than presenting themselves as polished performers, they appear as vulnerable individuals sharing their emotions with the audience. This authenticity is a hallmark of The Gallows Pole's music, and it's what sets them apart from other bands in their genre.

Watching this clip today offers a unique opportunity to experience the raw energy and emotional intensity that defined The Gallows Pole's live performances. It's a reminder that even the most talented musicians are not immune to the ups and downs of life, and that their music is often a reflection of their own personal struggles and triumphs. As we watch this performance unfold, we're invited to step into the world of the band, if only for a brief moment, and experience the emotions that drive their music.

The Gallows Pole's legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike. This clip serves as a testament to their enduring impact on the folk scene, and a reminder of the power of music to capture the human experience in all its complexity. As we watch this performance, we're reminded that even the most fleeting moments can be imbued with lasting significance – and that sometimes, it's the raw emotion and vulnerability that make art truly unforgettable.

The clip ends abruptly, leaving us with a sense of longing and unfinished business. But it's precisely this feeling that makes "When your ex is back and you're not exactly happy about it" so memorable – a poignant reminder of the fragility and beauty of human connection, captured in a single, fleeting moment on stage.
