Johnny Young At The High Chaparral
The very first live Blues gig I ever attended was a Blue Monday at the High Chaparral on South Stoney Island in February 1972. I went as the guest of Cadillac Baby and rode there in his 1970 Cadillac. On the bill that evening was Hound Dog Taylor & His Houserockers. Also a second band performed -- Blues mandolinist Johnny Young, accompanied by Lee Jackson on guitar and Winehead Willie Williams on drums. During the Hound Dog set Johnny, Lee, Winehead Willie, and B.B. Jones sat at our table and you can hear them laughing, talking -- and talking to the musicians on stage. This is oneof tunes I recorded that night... Johnny Young was one of a kind -- and his was the first Blues Funeral I attended in April 1974. But listen to Lee Jackson on guitar -- find me someone out there that can play this part today!
