About This Footage

This footage of Shed Seven performing "Missing Out" on the East Coast Main Line in 1993 is a rare gem that offers a glimpse into the early days of one of Britain's most beloved alternative rock bands. At the time this was filmed, Shed Seven was just beginning to make waves with their unique blend of Britpop and indie rock sounds.

The band's lead singer, Rick Witter, was already developing his distinctive vocal style, which would become a hallmark of the group's sound. With his raspy delivery and poetic lyrics, Witter was quickly becoming a fan favorite among those who had discovered Shed Seven through their early singles on the independent label, Pedlar Records.

The fact that this footage is from 1993 makes it all the more significant. This was a time when Britpop was still in its infancy, with Oasis's debut album not yet released and Blur's Parklife still several months away. Shed Seven, along with bands like Pulp and Cast, were among the first to tap into the growing popularity of indie rock and alternative sounds.

What makes this footage truly remarkable is that it captures the band performing on live television, a rare occurrence for such an early stage in their career. The fact that they chose to perform on the East Coast Main Line, which was part of the Tyne Tees Television network, suggests that Shed Seven was already gaining traction and recognition within the music industry.

The audio may be slightly out of sync, but the energy and enthusiasm of the band is palpable. Witter's vocals are raw and emotive, while the rest of the band provides a driving rhythm section that propels the song forward. The performance is loose and spontaneous, with the band clearly feeding off each other's energy.

For fans of Shed Seven, this footage will be a treat to watch. It offers a rare glimpse into the band's early live performances and provides insight into their development as musicians. Even for those who are new to the band, "Missing Out" is a standout track that showcases Witter's unique vocal style and the band's ability to craft catchy, memorable melodies.

The fact that this footage has been preserved and shared online is a testament to the dedication of fans like the one who uploaded it. Despite its rough quality, the video provides a valuable historical record of Shed Seven's early days and serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving live performances from the 1990s indie rock scene.

As you watch this footage, you can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the Britpop era. The energy and excitement of the band on stage is infectious, and it's clear that Shed Seven was one of the pioneering bands of the movement. Even if you're not familiar with their music, "Missing Out" is a song that will stick in your head long after the video ends.
