With more than four decades of history, And Also The Trees continue to stand out as one of the most distinctive bands to emerge from the UK post-punk scene. Their latest album, “The Devil’s Door”, arrives as the final chapter in a trilogy that began with “The Bone Carver” (2023) and evolved through “Mother-of-pearl Moon” (2024), revealing a band in constant artistic and sonic reinvention. Marked by an atmosphere that is both cinematic and introspective, the record unfolds as a quiet storm, blending poetic lyricism, emotional intensity, and a subtle strain of dark psychedelia. While retaining the band’s signature elements — including orchestral-style guitar work and evocative storytelling — “The Devil’s Door” expands its sonic palette with new textures and instrumentation, featuring guest violinist Catherine Graindorge and hinting at a sound world where John Barry meets Béla Bartók. In this interview, Simon Jones reflects on the creative process behind the new album, the conclusion of this trilogy, and how And Also The Trees continue to explore the space between the real and the imagined.
