Bill Keith and Jim Rooney, Live in 1962 at the 1st Philadelphia Folk Festival: Devil's Dream & I Ain't Gonna Work Tomorrow This version of Devil's Dream was recorded live in early September 1962 at the first Philadelphia Folk Festival, Paoli, PA. Bill Keith won the morning banjo contest with this tune. Bill and Jim played again in the evening concert: ''I Ain't Gonna Work Tomorrow'', a traditional tune first recorded by the Carter Family in 1928, and later covered by many bluegrass bands such as Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs. Devil's Dream is the prototype of the 'melodic' banjo style, also known as the 'Keith' style. Bill learned this fiddle tune from Loring and June Hall. His first interest was in adapting this fiddle tune to the banjo. This style became Bill's trademark. Bill recorded this tunes again with Bill Monroe himself in March 1963 (Decca sessions).
