You Night Models share their nine month runway experience. Hear first hand from Angelle Albright, as she explains her transformation from cancer patient to runway model. You Night Empowering Events was founded in May of 2013, when Louisiana-based entrepreneur Lisa McKenzie of Ooh La Bra visualized a concept where everyday women could participate in a runway training experience so they could gain self-esteem, learn to step outside of their comfort zones and have fun at the same time. A team of dedicated and talented women from the St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana (see team profiles) began discussions of how they could bring a life-changing, empowering event to the community. Little did the team know that four months later, 24 cancer survivors would be celebrated on stage in front of 550 guests at a sold-out event. The impact was far-reaching. The participants developed an amazing sisterhood of support, and the guests experienced a love-filled event like none other. Family members, friends, doctors, nurses, salons and boutiques united, understanding that when one woman is impacted by cancer, it affects an entire community. Many things happened after that first event: New participants were signing up to be on wait lists. Sponsors were coming forward and asking how they could be involved. "Alum" models were coming on board to be volunteers with the next group. Health care providers started referring women who were feeling down and were needing this type of event in their lives. Less than 2 years later, four events were planned with over 100 women (and two men!) participating. 2,000 guests to date have been in attendance. Our participants, once scared to step on such a public platform, were slowly transforming to empowered ambassadors of hope for other cancer patients. They have been guests on live news programs, and have shared their stories with thousands of people around the world through our social media platforms. #Scart #Sherose #younight #hope #community #cancer #Thriver #cancersurvivorship #cancercommunity #oncology #cancerpatient #cancersupport #cancercare #canceremotionalsupport
R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
