On the occasion of their debut platinum awarded album “Placebo”, one of the brightest British alternative rock bands Placebo are announcing a special tour “20 years of Placebo”. On October 22nd they’re giving a show at Arena Riga, what will be the one and only gig in the Baltic States. To thank Placebo’s loyal fans, the concert’s playlists will be compiled of their most successful and popular material, which needless to say also will not let down anyone who has ever heard anything about Placebo. “Let's just say there will be songs in the set that I've sworn never to play again. I think it's time that we purposefully acknowledged what a lot of Placebo fans really want to hear. They've been very patient with us since we rarely play our most commercially successful material. A 20 year anniversary tour seems like the right time to do so. That's our intention. This tour is very much for the fans and a chance for us to revisit a lot of our early material. So, if you want to see us play songs like 'Pure Morning’ and 'Nancy Boy’ which we haven't played in almost ten years and may not play again, then you'd better come along to these shows! We'll have some surprises in there too.”, admits Brian Molko, the band’s frontman. Placebo was founded in 1994, when singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Molko met guitarist Stefan Olsdal. In a amazingly creative way the band tangles the depressive maximalism, outsider’s pain and models of difficult (mostly unfortunate) relationship with melody and sensuality, making Placebo one of the brightest luminaries at the British alternative rock. The band have released 7 studio albums, with a total 11 million copies, all of them reaching UK Top 20. Placebo contribution is assessed with the following awards: BRIT, MTV Europe, ECHO, Kerrang! etc. Extremely rich Placebo hit accounts represent such compositions as Pure Morning, Nancy Boy, Special K, Bitter End, Every You Every Me, Twenty Years, Song To Say Goodbye, Special Needs, Meds, This Picture, Infra-Red, Black-Eyed, Ashtray Heart, Battle For The Sun, Bacause I Want You, Teenage Angst, Slave To The Wage, Sleeping With Ghosts and lots of other songs, which keeps the Placebo into the list of most successful masters of singles.

About R.E.M.

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...

About This Footage

The 1994 footage of Placebo's performance at Arena Riga is a rare and notable capture of the band's early days. As one of the brightest luminaries in British alternative rock, Placebo has built a reputation for their unique blend of melody and sensuality, tackling themes of depression, pain, and relationships.

The band's 20-year anniversary tour, which this performance was part of, marked a significant milestone in their career. With seven studio albums under their belt, including the debut platinum awarded album "Placebo", it's no surprise that fans were eager to see them revisit some of their most popular material.

Brian Molko's admission that they would be playing songs like "Pure Morning" and "Nancy Boy" for the first time in almost ten years is a testament to the band's dedication to their fans. The fact that these songs have been absent from their setlists for so long only adds to the excitement of this tour.

The performance at Arena Riga was likely one of the highlights of the tour, with Placebo giving it their all on stage. Although the clip is brief, lasting only 26 seconds, it's a tantalizing glimpse into the band's early live shows. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd are palpable, and it's clear that Placebo were already building a loyal following.

It's worth noting that this footage is not just significant for Placebo fans, but also for those interested in the development of alternative rock as a genre. The 1990s saw a surge in popularity for bands like Placebo, who pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable in mainstream music. Their unique sound and style paved the way for future generations of musicians.

The fact that this footage is rare only adds to its value. With so much emphasis on digital releases and streaming services today, it's refreshing to see a clip from an era when live performances were truly special events. The Arena Riga show was likely a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those in attendance, and this footage serves as a reminder of the magic that can happen when great music meets a live audience.

In conclusion, the 1994 Placebo performance at Arena Riga is a must-see for fans of alternative rock. It's a rare glimpse into the band's early days, showcasing their unique sound and style. Even though the clip is brief, it's a testament to the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd, and serves as a reminder of the impact that Placebo has had on the music world.
