Artist Spotlight: Paul Plimley | 2021 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival

I just let go and focus and let the music happen.” Pianist Paul Plimley (Lisle Ellis, Scott Amendola) is a joyful tornado of avant-improvisation, modal melodic manipulations, and sharp neo-classicism. “With a stylistic range that recalls the explosiveness and tonal freedom of Cecil Taylor as well as the introspection of Paul Bley” (AllMusic), Plimley embodies passionate, forward-thinking improv with the endlessly engaging rhythm section of Clyde Reed bass and Kenton Loewen drums.
