Legend Raul Malo final moments in hospital He knew his life was short
The Mavericks frontman Raul Malo died on December 8, 2025, at age 60.  He had been publicly battling cancer: he first announced a diagnosis of colon cancer in June 2024.  By September 2025, the illness had progressed to a rare complication Leptomeningeal disease (LMD), affecting the membranes around his brain and spinal cord, which forced the band to cancel tour dates.  His wife announced his passing, calling him a beloved partner, musician, and a force of love, passion, and joy. RIP legend

Raul Francisco Martínez-Malo Jr. (August 7, 1965 – December 8, 2025) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. He was both the lead singer and songwriter of country music band the Mavericks, co-writing many of their singles, as well as Rick Trevino's 2003 single "In My Dreams".
