rec.#37OD: LAWDY MISS CLAWDY [2:21] (upspeeded 45RPM version/chorus overdubs) Recorded March 13, 1952 (Thursday) The Stewart Sisters chorus overdubs: date unknown (w&m: Lloyd Price) ON LABEL: Lloyd Price And His Orchestra Fats 1st recording from his 9th session. a-side of Specialty 661 b/w Mailman Blues". 45/RPM release: March 1959. First album release: "Personality Plus", Specialty 2156 Released: 1986. J and M Studio, 838 North Rampart St., New Orleans, LA Lloyd Price(v), Dave Bartholomew(tp), Joe Harris(as), Herb Hardesty(tsSOLO), Fats Domino(p), Ernest McLean(g), Frank Fields(b), Earl Palmer(d), the Stewart Sisters[Darlene Paul, Trudy Hancock and Irene Diaz](chorus overdubs) Producer/Arranger: Dave Bartholomew Engineer: Cosimo Matassa This is the overdubbed and upspeeded version of the original. I guess Specialty was following Atlantic's lead (and ABC-Paramount's with the then current Lloyd Price hits), "sweetening" their R&B to supposedly appeal to a wider market. Specialty probably used the Stewart Sisters (a white group) for the overdubs. The original "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" (Specialty 428; see that entry) entered the Billboard R&B charts on May 17, 1952. It reached POS. #01. It stayed there for 7 week2. It stayed 26 weeks on the charts. For sessiondetails and more of Fats, share and LIKE https://www.facebook.com/officialFATSDominoFANSITE/

About Lloyd Price

Lloyd Price was an American R&B and rock and roll singer known as "Mr. Personality" after his 1959 million-selling hit, "Personality". His first recording, "Lawdy Miss Clawdy", was a hit for Specialty Records in 1952. He continued to release records, but none were as popular until several years later, when he refined the New Orleans beat and achieved a series of national hits. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
