“Shine On, Mr. Moon” by Don Rich (with Tex Mitchell’s Rhythm Riders)
An undigitized rarity for over 65 years, “Shine On, Mr. Moon” and “Everybody’s Doin’ It, Buying On Time” are two pieces of lost media and Pacific Northwestern country music history that are finally available to stream online. Tex Mitchell’s Rhythm Riders were active in the late 1950s and recorded on the Yakima-based record label “Lilt”, owned by Opal M. Curtis. Only four sides are credited to the label, all written by Curtis and performed by Tex Mitchell’s orchestra, featuring a teenaged Don Ulrich (later known as Don Rich) on fiddle and lead vocals. The two other sides recorded to a Lilt record are “Cotton Pickin’ Sambo” and “The Lonesome Tomcat.” This audio comes from the collection of Samuel Osborne and was restored by Stephen Hoffman.
