The Sony U-matic VCR
Before VHS or Beta, Sony introduced the U-matic VCR to the professional market in 1971. Both the machine and the cassette are considerably larger than the home VCRs we are more familiar with, but, surprisingly, this format was used by news and media outlets well into the 2000s. A Final Destination electronic press kit is seen in the video. It contains the trailer and several clips from the movie that may have been used when the actors were doing press before the movie’s release.

VHS or Beta was an American rock band originally from Louisville, Kentucky, later based in Brooklyn, New York, that combined elements of rock, house and disco. The band took their name from the videotape format war of the 1970s and 1980s, where Sony's Beta format competed with JVC's VHS.
