#blues_music Album/Single/EP : Shellac, 10", 78 Rpm Humming Blues / Pretty Mama Blues Vaudeville blues singer and ukulele player, who recorded two titles for Gennett in Richmond, Indiana, 1929. Translated from 78revoluciones.com : The recording session was held on November 20, 1929 with Linthecome (also known by the nickname Red Onion Joe ) on ukulele, vocals and humming (basically imitating the sound of a trumpet with his mouth). The record is not only rare because of the few copies that exist but because it is one of the few examples of a black musician playing Blues with the ukulele. “Humming Blues” became a reissue from the late 30s or early 40s made by the Varsity label. This short-lived label (1939-1941) was founded by Eli Oberstein, who reissued many records from the 1920s and 1930s. In 1941 it declared bankruptcy but was rescued and relaunched at the end of that same decade. In this edition Linthecome was renamed with the nickname Joe Joe . "Pretty Mama Blues" (which on Varsity was released simply as "Mama Blues").
