A native of Seattle, Washington, Lamarr is a skilled rhythm player and improviser whose sound on the much-loved keyboard has a gritty, sometimes rugged character, with the high register of the instrument being made all the more prominent due to a careful, often spare use of the bass pedals. Guitarist Jimmy James is a hugely soulful frontline partner who could almost be Steve Cropper to Lamarr’s Booker T while drummer Grant Schroff supplies a tight, crisp backbeat that makes the group irresistibly danceable. As this concert from the Jazz à la Villette festival shows, its influences extend to the classic ‘70s funk of The Meters as well as the ‘60s R&B of Billy Preston. A highly endearing personality and good communicator on stage, Lamarr is a trusted keeper of the flame of black music that has deep roots in the rich soil of both gospel and the blues. - Kevin Le Gendre 🎥 Watch our well-curated playlists Full CONCERTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmpezrQgeLSfwlD__APwFech Analogue Sessions https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5Omo5LIL52OsO5S8PaL98jgrp The GREATEST HITS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmqKsgOZ5Wvr_nE9puWglGhf Legendary ARCHIVE GEMS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5OmoPQHkpmCsnItDdxPkqVO_f Captivating DOCUMENTARIES https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTC9wN0i5Omobz7szKdlkXU-TRrBE2_Px Follow Qwest TV Website: https://www.qwest.tv/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/qwest.tv Facebook: https://facebook.com/qwesttv Twitter: https://twitter.com/Qwest_TV Qwest TV is Quincy Jones' video streaming network celebrating Black Music & Global Sounds through premium documentaries, live concerts, archive gems and interviews showcasing the greatest musicians of all time!
