GENERAL DISCLAIMER: I don't own this s**t. If you do and you want it not up online for some reason, let me know. I don’t think I ever got to see Burnout, but I remember hearing the name a ton and I was stoked to finally get my hands on both this and their self-titled EP as I was getting deep into stoner rock. I’m not sure how this holds up, as I’ve since reached my quota (and then some) on stoner rock in the past fifteen years, but it sure is delightfully of its time. Retro sci-fi art that would have been found on a van in the 70s, that big Matamp/Orange sound on the guitars, and a laidback sort of macho that hits me now as both formative and confusing. One of many relics I have from the StonerRock.com message board days, and definitely the one most involved with the Dubuque scene. I believe they played a show at The Lift with Alabama Thunderpussy and Smothering Angels that was pretty mighty. They probably also played the Rwake show at the Lift that blew the breaker like five times, though both of these were just a year or two before my time. I believe members went on to play in Damn the Gods, The Horde, and others I’m forgetting at the moment. Also, “6ft of Piss” is an incredible song title. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
