BBC News The Charlatans ; album inspired by memory of drummer Jon Brookes
When the drummer of The Charlatans, Jon Brookes, died from brain cancer almost two years ago, the band was determined to carry on to honour his memory. Jon became the driving force for them to make their latest album, Modern Nature. Rather than trying to find a full-time replacement for him, they asked a number of other drummers to feature in the tracks. BBC Breakfast spoke to band members Tim Burgess and Mark Collins, and took a look at their new single.
About The Band
The Band were a Canadian-American rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario. It consisted of Canadians Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson and American Levon Helm. The Band's music combined elements of Americana, folk, rock, R&B, jazz and country, which influenced artists including George Harrison, Elton John, the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and Wilco.
