Eric Andersen PART 3 "I Love To Sing My Ballad, Mama" Leon Russell electric guitar
In 1991 Sony released Eric Andersen: Stages (the lost album). It contained vintage material from the early 70s, and newer recordings from 1990. Among the older songs were three that Leon Russell played on. Here is "I Love To Sing My Ballad, Mama (But They Only Wanna Hear Me Rock And Roll)." Rather than play a keyboard, as he did on two songs for Eric, Leon chose to play electric guitar on this, as Mike Leech played bass. It and "Wild Crow Blues" were among the three songs that bass player, Norbert Putnam mixed. Background vocalist on the session was Dan Folgelberg, who coincidentally, donated his piano to The Church Studio, once owned by Leon, and now is in the great hands of Teresa Knox. It is a place you need to visit when in Tulsa.
