'Last Men Standing' a temporary name for The Deviants as we rehearsed and perfromed our first full gig with all the band. Previous outings with members misssing were as the Portobello All Stars, Mick N Tim, Mick And Fairy Friends' most of which took place in the year or so before And C returned from the USA but Mick Hd already come back, one or two were done when Mick was visitng. This particular gig was arranged by the Real Music Club, though it wasn't one of their monthly gigs. This was a live rehearsal for the bands then forthcoming Glastonbury appearance where they appeared on the 1971 stage to mark the festivals 40th anniversary.. Both Russell and Sandy appeared at tha original event as the Pink Fairies and Mick was their representing the Underground Press (Nasty Tales was busted while they were there) The Pink Fairies set in 1971 was made available in audio on the triple album of the event released in 1972 which (although the set is now widely available) 3 disc set sells for several hundred pounds. This line up of The Deviants (or The Last Men Standing') stars Mick Farren on vocals and inspiration; Duncan 'Sandy' Sanderson on free Bass; Tim Rundall on open stooge guitar and slide. plus strat ; Andy Colquhoun on deadly radar pinpoint guitar and riffage ; Jaki Windmill on Djembe and percussion ; Russell Hunter - extreme drums, taste and machine gun percussion spray. The first of many live appearances by this line up which was only completed when Andy returned from LA saw the band playing at high volume to a wildly excited crowd. Though the Glastonbury set was slicker this has a threatening undercurrent is challenging the universe to a duel. We won. Part Two Cuban Rebel Gurl (somewhat rough, it took ages for the band to get the count right but by glastonbury it worked well and I wish it had been recorded!) Dogpoet I never made it to Memphis To view part one go to: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&ar=2&feature=vm&video_id=6KdZA_ECGIU
Pink Fairies are an English rock band initially active in the London underground and psychedelic scene of the early 1970s. They promoted free music, drug use, and anarchy, and often performed impromptu gigs and other stunts, such as playing for nothing outside the gates at the Bath and Isle of Wight pop festivals in 1970, as well as appearing at Phun City, the second Glastonbury Festival, and other free festivals including Windsor and Trentishoe.
