Airdate: January 4, 1964 As D**k mentions, “Da Doo Ron Ron” “hit its stride” just 7 months ago, in June, when it peaked at #3. The refrain “da doo ron ron” came from nonsense syllables stuck in as temporary filler by songwriters Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Phil Spector, however, thought the phrase was simple enough to not get in the way of the song’s simple boy-meets-girl story line and kept it in. The Crystals will sing their new single “Little Boy” when they appear as the musical guest next week. It will be their only appearance on the show. Dancing today are some of the final Philadelphia regulars including Bruce Richard & Barbara Warchol (0:25), Pat Carpino & Michelle Liebowitz (1:02) and Bobby Baritz & Ailyene Silverman (1:40). In 6 days (Jan. 10), Vee-Jay records will release the very first Beatles album available in the U.S., “Introducing…The Beatles.” Vee-Jay records acquired the rights to the Beatles early recordings when EMI subsidiary Capitol Records declined to release Beatles records back in 1963 stating “We don’t think the Beatles will do anything in this market”. Capitol will release their “Meet The Beatles” album on Jan. 20. If you happened to pick one up back then, a first edition of “Introducing…The Beatles” sold on Ebay for $14,999 in 2012.
