Playalong tunes: Double Lead Through

William Kimber
1960s1961youtube

Playalong tunes: country dance and session tunes played at a steady speed for playing along with, in D or G, or with both keys within the tune. When the instrument used is a melodeon, the keyboard is a standard layout in D/G with standard accidentals at the chin end of the keyboard. Videos in this Playalong series may be played on a melodeon, fiddle, tenor banjo (tuned GDAE) or whistle. You may find it useful to slow the speed of the video to find out more about how I play this tune; YouTube has this facility in the settings, which can usually be found somewhere in the right of the screen. It is also possible to loop videos so you don't have to keep pressing the start button. The tune is a classic of the English traditional tune repertoire. It was collected by Cecil Sharp from concertina player William Kimber (1872-1961), of Headington Quarrry Morris. Legendary morris dancer and caller Hugh Ripon discovered that it was originally composed by Frenchman Charles Lecoq for his 1872 opéra-comique La fille de Madame Angot. Search for Singdanceandplay dot net to find written music and information about our friendly tunes playing meetings under the auspices of Goudhurst u3a.
