The track "Higher Ground" of the nutrient album of Soylent Green was a centerpiece of the album & style of this band. Heavy psychedelic guitars, drony polyrhythmic synths, doors like bass lines and an amazing pulse by drummer Jos Zoomer with long long arrangements so familiar of the dance music of the nineties. It was amazing how everything was played live by the band and keyboard player Math Fuzzy (aka Martin van de Oetelaar) who decided to leave out the risks of a laptop totally. The slide Overtones of the electric guitar intro remind us of Ry Cooder like atmospheres and the song structures and parts are totally based on the pulsing bass line of bass player Eric Fox. The verses are accompanied by wide open voicings of the guitar and Peter Gabriel like moods and vocals by singer Marco van der Aar, The pre-chorus has a kind of edgy U2 vibe while preceding the release of the POP album with similar kind of mixtures of pop, songwriter and electronic music. The Chorus is haunted and results in a climax at the end with the total mayhem of slides electronic and production Wizardry of Hans "Capricorn" Weekhout. Forgive us that the live versions sometimes even exceeded the album playing time of 9 minutes. Hope we didn't bore you. R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming.
