PHILLIP JOHNSTON & THE COOLERATORS - DIGGIN' BONES
DIGGIN' BONES ALBUM LAUNCH - SIMA | 4 August 2018 | Sydney (Recorded Live - selected excerpts) “Jazz played with some true wit… quirky, cartoonish pieces, coloured with chirpy melodies and unexpected moments of poignancy” – John Shand (Sydney Morning Herald) Originally hailing from New York City, The New Yorker called Phillip Johnston, “An exceptionally individualistic composer and superb improviser”. He has led Phillip Johnston & The Coolerators in one form or another since moving to Australia in 2005. Both groovy and cerebral, The Coolerators play funky dance music for a cartoon universe. Now they present Phillip’s second Australian recording, Diggin’ Bones: tight, compact, funky, smart, and a reinvention of organ groove jazz.
