Unknown Artist – What Happened To The Good Times Charlie (Rare Unreleased Soul Acetate, c.1971)

Another wonderful unreleased soul discovery from an A. Schroeder / January Music publishing acetate. This beautiful mid-tempo soul ballad, "What Happened To The Good Times Charlie," was written by the talented songwriting team Tom Brock and Earl Nelson. Tom Brock would later become known for his highly regarded 1974 album I Love You More And More, while Earl Nelson was already an established songwriter and one half of the legendary duo Bob & Earl, best known for "Harlem Shuffle." The recording features a superb female vocalist, although I have not yet been able to identify the singer. If anyone recognizes the voice, please leave a comment below. According to the accompanying handwritten lead sheets, the song was copyrighted by Sa-Vette Music Co. / January Music Corp. (A. Schroeder International), suggesting this was likely a publisher's demonstration recording intended to pitch the composition to established recording artists.
