After recording independent albums, the band released their first full-length album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003. On the strength of hit singles "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal", Fallen sold more than 17 million copies worldwide, and won the band two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. A year later, Evanescence released their first live album, Anywhere but Home, which sold over one million copies worldwide. The band released their second studio album, The Open Door in 2006, which sold more than five million copies. They reconvened in June 2009 with a new lineup. Their next studio album, Evanescence, was released in 2011. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200[2] and four other Billboard charts: Rock Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums. The band spent 2012 on tour, with guitarist Troy McLawhorn becoming a full-time band member during this time. Following the end of the album's tour cycle, the band entered a hiatus. In 2015, Evanescence emerged from hiatus and announced they would resume touring into 2016 but new Evanescence material was not yet being produced as Lee was focusing on a solo project. In March 2017, Lee stated that Evanescence was working on a fourth album, Synthesis, which was released in November 2017 and includes orchestrally–reworked versions of the band's previous material with electronica elements; it was followed by the Synthesis Live concert tour in which the band performed with a live orchestra for the first time. In 2021, the band released their fifth studio album, The Bitter Truth. Evanescence's lineup changed several times over the years, and none of the band's five studio albums feature the same lineup. Previous members include David Hodges (2000–02), guitarist Moody (1995–2003), guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray (2003–07), and guitarist Terry Balsamo (2003-15). Lee is the sole constant member of the band, with its present lineup comprising Lee, guitarist Troy McLawhorn since 2007, guitarist Tim McCord since 2006, drummer Will Hunt since 2007, and bassist Emma Anzai as of 2022. BIO OF WAGAKKI BAND MEMBERS: Yuko Suzuhana (鈴華ゆう子) – vocals Machiya (町屋) – guitar, vocals Beni Ninagawa (蜷川べに) – tsugaru shamisen Kiyoshi Ibukuro (いぶくろ聖志) – koto Asa (亜沙) – bass Daisuke Kaminaga (神永大輔) – shakuhachi Wasabi (山葵) – drums Kurona (黒流) – wadaiko Wagakki Band (Japanese: 和楽器バンド, Hepburn: Wagakki Bando) is a Japanese band that combines rock music with wagakki (traditional Japanese musical instruments) and shigin (Japanese poems reciting art). Their early songs were adapted from Vocaloid recordings but they have since written their own original music. Their music videos for the songs "Tengaku" (天樂) and "Senbonzakura" (千本桜) have attracted millions of views on YouTube.[5][6] They have played live in Asia, Europe, and the United States. Shigin singer Yuko Suzuhana (who had been elected Miss Nico Nama ニコ生 in 2011), shakuhachi player Daisuke Kaminaga, and koto player Kiyoshi Ibukuro formed the band Hanafugetsu in February 2012. Suzuhana also played piano at this time. Suzuhana then conceived a band that fused the traditional and modern sides of Japanese culture, leading to the formation of Wagakki Band.[citation needed] In August 2012 the members of Hanafugetsu met guitarist Machiya, who was a notable session musician with a reputation for fast playing. Around this time, Suzuhana also met drummer Wasabi at an event by Nico Nico Douga. Wasabi, Kaminaga, and Ibukuro had all previously worked with wadaiko player Kurona, who was invited to join the new ensemble. The band's first work, still under the name Hanafugetsu, was an adaptation of the Vocaloid song "Tsuki Kage Mai Ka" (月・影・舞・華) with Kanade on shamisen and Shirakami Mashiro on bass. A video of the recording was released in October 2012 and went viral, remaining in the top 3 of the "Played It" category since then. Bassist Asa, a popular Vocaloid producer and creator of the hit song "Yoshiwara Lament", then joined the band.[5] During a gig in a Shibuya bar, the band was approached by shamisen player Ninagawa Beni, who became the final addition to the band.[7][9] The formation of the new band was officially announced in March 2013. They initially operated under the name Suzuhana Yuko with Wagakki Band, but by early 2014 the name was shortened to simply Wagakki Band.
