Recorded at the Town Hall Birmingham on 2 November 2010 Norma and Eliza sing Jazz classic 'Ukelele Lady' morphed into a medley with the 1969 Amen Corner hit '(If Paradise Is) Half as Nice'. Ukulele Lady was by Gus Kahn and Richard A. Whiting. Published in 1925, the song was first made famous by Vaughn De Leath. It was also recorded in 1925 by Paul Whiteman (The King of Jazz). He was the person that commissioned George Gershwin to write 'Rhapsody in Blue'. It has previously been recorded by many other artists as diverse as Bette Midler and Arlo Guthrie but this must be the first time (to the best of my knowledge) it has been linked up with the Amen Corner song. It is now a track on the mother and daughter's new album 'Gift' released in July this year and promoted on this tour.... which incidentally has had to be rescheduled because of the imminent birth of Eliza's second child. Wishing her all the very best of course and extending that to her partner and the entire Waterson - Carthy English folk music dynasty.
