Health Alert: Musical lessons in eating healthy
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- There are a lot of ways to teach kids to eat right and exercise but the way the kids at Cheviot Elementary got taught that message Wednesday, Nov. 18, is not one people likely got growing up. The school was one of three in the Tri-State, 25 in the country, that said they were United against junk food! It's not the traditional style of teaching or the traditional classroom but the kids at Cheviot Elementary School were applauding the lesson. They won't soon forget it. It was all part of the worlds only rock and roll nutrition show called Jump With Jill. Tammy Solomon-Gray, Cheviot Elementary principal said, We have a very instant culture now where everything comes quick but health and wellness is not quick. You have to have habits for that. Habits that it's co-host Meijer grocery stores said can never start too late or too early. These kids heard how to keep their body healthy. The idea behind all of it is that kids learn better when they are well fed, well rounded and of course their bodies get good exercise. To do that they might have to take the message home to mom and dad. Onyango Collier, resource coordinator, said, I wanted to kind of encourage them to help mom and dad to see the good habits that they're having and it becomes a household situation. Produce suppliers with Meijer collect donations for the program to help provide it for schools. Follow Liz Bonis on Twitter @lbonis1, and LIKE her on Facebook.
