Audio & Video both remastered by RE-MASTERPIECES. (from VHS tape) The Concert in Central Park, released in February 1982 on Warner Bros. Records, is the first live album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. It was recorded on the 19th September 1981 at a free benefit concert on the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of an audience reported at the time as 500.000 people. Later estimates determined that the maximum number of people who could fit in the park space was 48.500. A film of the event was shown on TV and released on video. Proceeds went toward the redevelopment and maintenance of the park, which had deteriorated due to lack of municipal funding. The concert and album marked the start of a three-year reunion of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. About This Footage

The release of "Simon and Garfunkel (The Concert in Central Park 1981) Full Concert 16:9 HQ" on YouTube is a treasure trove for fans of the iconic duo. This rare footage, remastered from a VHS tape, offers an unparalleled glimpse into their live performance style during their three-year reunion period.

Recorded on September 19, 1981, at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City, this event was attended by an estimated 500,000 people. The concert's significance extends beyond its massive turnout; it marked the beginning of Simon and Garfunkel's reunion, which would last for three years.

The tracklist is a testament to their enduring popularity, featuring hits like "Mrs. Robinson," "Homeward Bound," "America," and "Bridge over Troubled Water." These songs have become synonymous with the duo's folk-rock sound, which captivated audiences in the 1960s.

What makes this footage particularly notable is its live performance aspect. Simon and Garfunkel's chemistry on stage is palpable as they harmonize and trade vocals on classic tracks like "Scarborough Fair" and "The Sound of Silence." The addition of a full band, including Pete Carr, David Brown, Anthony Jackson, Richard Tee, Steve Gadd, Grady Tate, Rob Mounsey, John Gatchell, and Dave Tofani, adds depth to their sound.

This concert marked the start of a new era for Simon and Garfunkel, as they began to perform together again after a six-year hiatus. Their reunion was met with enthusiasm from fans and critics alike, solidifying their status as one of the most beloved musical duos of all time.

The inclusion of Steve Gadd on drums is also noteworthy, given his impressive session work credentials. His performances on Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" (1976) and "Late in the Evening" (1980) are widely regarded as some of the greatest drumming moments in rock history.

This rare footage serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Simon and Garfunkel, whose music continues to inspire new generations. Their reunion concert in Central Park was a pivotal moment in their career, marking a return to form for one of the most iconic musical duos of all time.
