John Dalton Locke presentation
John Dalton Locke: never heard of him? Don’t worry; no one else has either. However, his life story is intimately entwined with the story of the young United States in the years following the Revolutionary War. Starting out poor and becoming immensely wealthy, John Dalton Locke and his family’s life interconnect with the California Gold Rush, ‘bleeding Kansas’ and the build up to the Civil War, with brothers on opposite sides. His story does not end happily however, but with heartbreak born of his children’s greed and the destruction of all he had built. Rare pictures of an affluent New York family in the 1800’s will be shown.
