Born in Mississippi in 1943, Jimmy Burns is a contemporary bluesman who combines his Delta roots with R & B and soul with a unique sound. Burns moved to Chicago at age 12 and began to contribute to both the gospel and the folklore of the city. With a melodic guitar style, soulful vocals and expressive lyrics, Burns is a charismatic stage performer. After a long break from the family-friendly performance, Jimmy Burns' debut album in 1996 won the "Best Disc of Blues of the Year" by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors and what a great effort this is. Firmly rooted in traditional blues, Burns refers us to 14 songs, mostly original, which feature good guitar work and infectious vocals. Jimmy Burns has a melodic tune that dates back to his teenage years with Medallionaires, one of Chicago's top 50 doo-wop groups, but he also took the multi-faceted guitar technique and varied flavors of an experienced jock-juke bandit. He recorded for some local labels since doo-wop faded, but not until 1996 when he was 53, he cut his first full-length as leader, Leaving Here Walking, Burns has since contributed to the albums of his renowned brother Detroit bluesman Eddie Burns and continues to please audiences around the world His voice is not rough or tense, it is refined and smooth ... sounds like the slightly coarsest uncle of Robert Cray, and he was a great addition to the blues modern, despite having passed the 50 years of age in this debut with the album "Leaving Here Walking". Burns's penetrating attack of Staccato recalls guitarists like Magic Sam or his protege Magic Slim. Together with Rockin 'Johnny Burgin, they form an effective set of two guitars. I can not decide which one is the sweetest, the sax or the way the guitars play each other, swinging from one side to another and then back to the center ... and everything is balanced by the battery that is on the background and not about leading or playing alone. This is a brilliant album. A valuable addition to any blues collection.
