To Want What I Love And Love What i Want - Mable John - 1968
I'm watching an episode of Ted Lasso, Season 2 on TV and in one scene, the background soundtrack being played suddenly catches my ear. It's either Ruby Johnson or Mable John, which in either case, it's fantastic that any recording by either one is being utilized in a current soundtrack. Lo and behold, it's Mabel John, singing the unreleased August 1968 Stax recording of, To Want What I Love And Love What I Want. For a soul music fan like myself, you have to appreciate the depths that the musical director of Ted Lasso went to dig up this hidden gem of a song for use in the show!
