The Ronettes least selling British single 45 that includes the fabulous, Phil Spector, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil composition "You Baby" on the flipside. A standout song covered by Len Barry, Jackie Trent, Lovenotes among others. But Spector never released it as a 45 in the USA, for reasons perhaps only known to himself. After a spectacular run of six 45's in less than three years, the shine of The Ronettes dulled slightly in the UK sales for this their 7th.45 to sell very poorly. A release that would later become sought after for "You Baby" which was only issued in Europe in the summer of 1965.But this time Spector's summery big production failed to hit big in all countries in the Euro zone. The imploring Bennett Sisters performance still shimmered with "everything" Spector, the "Wall Of Sound" as sturdy as ever but perhaps after six previous hits the style became a little samey. In fact the failure of "Is This What I Get For Loving You " went some way towards the decision for their next UK release "I Can Hear Music" to be cancelled altogether. We are left to wonder if "You Baby" was the lead song would the Ronettes story in the UK have ended differently? "You Baby" is the unquestionably the superior of the two songs, underlined by the number of artists eager to cover it. Before you today is a flawless promo copy of this non-hit that saw the decline in "Spector" girl sound in the UK. Rare, giving up two great sides most everybody passed over at the time. "You Baby" today is still considered by many as one of their favourite Girl Group recordings, and a "Spector" all-time-great.
