Til I Hear It From You Show Notes: So I've had this and Tori Amos in Boston on my calendar for months now. Some friends tried to get me to go to Phish at Fenway Park... I've never been to a show at Fenway, and with the prices and (assumed) crap sound quality, I'm going to pass on those shows forever. Prices for Tori got pretty cheap day of, but I decided late in the day that I'd go see the Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms and Blues Traveler - I had never seen any of them before, and although I'm not a huge fan of any of them, I know a bunch of songs. Only problem was the show start at 6, I work until 5, and I'm ~1.5 hrs from my door to the arena. I'll likely miss most of Spin Doctors, but maybe I can catch the last couple songs. I head out, scoping ticket prices along the way, hoping something up front gets cheap. Theres's some 8th row tickets for $27, but you have to buy 2... I hold off until I park in the garage (I finally parked in the right one 🙌). Those tickets - gone. I head to the Arena and buy 2 obstructed view tickets for $3/ea on TickPick to get myself through the door while I figure out a closer seat. Get through security at around 6:45. As I'm waiting for the tickets to transfer to me in the lobby, I can hear Spin Doctors covering Purple Rain - If I can get in there soon, I'll probably be able to catch Two Princes, although the video will be crap. Purple Rain ends around 6:50... still no tickets. Refresh. Refresh. Refresh... WTF. Two Princes starts and I go back to the apps to look for other tickets. Remember the pair of 8th row tickets for $52? Now it's a single ticket for $33 on StubHub. I recheck my email, TM account, TP account... nothing. I buy the $33 ticket just as Two Princes ends. During break I set up a claim with TickPick for my absent obstructed view tickets. They give me a refund for the $6 and a $5 credit for a future show. Fair enough. I roll down to the seat after set break and meet Nick. He is apparently a brother from another mother, because he came solo, had cheap obstructed view seats, and bought the pair I was looking at for $52 for an upgrade and resold the one ticket. Thanks man! I give Nick the run-down on how to get cheap upgrade tickets at some venues and we chat about different shows we've gone to and plan on going to. Cool dude. I start filming the Gin Blossoms set and a giant stands up in front of me. The only time I can get a clear shot of the bassist is when Mr. Giant start hugging and kissing up on his girlfriend, so I try to sneak in bass shots where I can. A couple songs in, I realize that row 5 has a ton of empty seats, so I move up there. As I'm getting into the row, I trip on the chairs and almost eat it right there in front of everyone while I'm trying to be sneaky and film at the same time. Much better video, and a lot less "necking" from up here. During set break, I offer Nick a drink, he passes. I go grab a drink and a smoke and meet a guy who was there for his 35th wedding anniversary and apparently knows John Popper from high school. He tells me that he got $250 free play with his $400 room purchase - something to keep in mind for the future. I head back down and chat with Nick and the other people in the original row, and tell them I'm heading back to 5 for Blues Traveler. The 5 empty seat on the end have turned into 2 empty in the middle. I sit down there and the couple next to me say "do you want us to move down one - those are our seats". I said "don't worry, this isn't my seat either", to warn them that I may be forcibly removed by a teenager with a flashlight later. A couple songs in, the two people that have the seats I'm standing in front of actually show up to the show. I ask the couple to push over and keep filming. A bit later, almost the entire row 2 gets up and walks out. They were probably comped. I slide out and move to the 2nd row. Score! Toward the end of the set, none other than Giant and his girlfriend sneak up to the 2nd row, which is still pretty much empty, but they decide to stand right next to me. "I bet this is HOOK!" the girl yells directly at me for some reason, even though I have video going. I shrug. The set end and John throws one of his harmonicas right at me, but just a little short. It hits the tips of my fingers and a guy in the front row grabs it as soon as it drops. He deserves it anyway - these aren't my seats, and I probably would have given it away. Ticket: $33 TP credit: $5 Casino winnings after the show: $50 Effectively got paid $22 for 2nd row tix🤘
Gin Blossoms are an American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona.
