Jens Kommnick - Saltón de Meres/Marcha d´Arnao/Marcha de San Roque

Jens Kommnick, LIVE in the Walburgiskirche at the "Venner Folkfrühling"-Festival, 9th May 2009. I heard these lively dance tunes from Asturia a Celtic community in the Northwest of Spain on the CD „L'Otru Lleau de la Mar (Fono Astur FA.CD.8734, 1992) by the group Llan de Cubel [www.llandecubel.com]. Since their formation in 1984, the band supports the revival of Asturian music, language and culture without being puristic. They use material collected in local archives or by themselves. The first piece of this set is an Asturian dance, called Saltón, followed by two traditional pipe tunes. Marcha dArnao is based on fragments of two different melodies from Arnao (North Asturia) which were connected by Llan de Cubel into one unit; the very old Marcha de San Roque has a religious background and is played mainly in the East Asturian region of Llanes.
