From the album "Suite for Pops" ... The title of the album is a tribute to the great Louis Armstrong aka Satchelmouth, Satchmo and affectionally called as Pops. The album is a 1975 big band jazz album recorded by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and released on the A&M Horizon label. Thad Jones (cornet, flugelhorn, percussion) Jon Faddis (trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion) Cecil Bridgewater, Virgil Jones, Marvin Stamm, Snooky Young, Jim Bossy, Steve Furtado, Lew Soloff (trumpet, flugelhorn) Eddie Bert, Quentin Butter Jackson, Jimmy Knepper, Billy Campbell, Earl McIntyre, Janice Robinson (trombone) Jack Jeffers (bass trombone, tuba), Cliff Heather, Dave Taylor (bass trombone) Jimmy Buffington, Ray Alonge, Earl Chapin, Peter Gordon, Julius Watkins (french horn) Jerry Dodgion (alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, flute) Ed Xiques (alto saxophone, flute, bass clarinet) Billy Harper, Ron Bridgewater (tenor saxophone, flute) Frank Foster (tenor saxophone, clarinet) Lou Marini, Greg Herbert (tenor saxophone) Eddie Daniels (clarinet, tenor saxophone, flute) Pepper Adams (baritone saxophone, clarinet) Roland Hanna (electric piano, tack piano) Richard Davis, George Mraz, Steve Gilmore (bass, electric bass) Mel Lewis (drums, percussion) Leonard Gibbs (conga) Dee Dee Bridgewater (vocal) Recorded in New York City, January 25, 1972. Thaddeus Joseph Jones (March 28, 1923 – August 20, 1986) was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader who has been called "one of the all-time greatest jazz trumpet soloists". Melvin Sokoloff (May 10, 1929 – February 2, 1990), known professionally as Mel Lewis, was an American jazz drummer, session musician, professor, and author. In 1966 in New York, he teamed up with Thad Jones to lead the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. The group started as informal jam sessions with the top studio and jazz musicians of the city, but eventually began performing regularly on Monday nights at the famed venue, the Village Vanguard. I do not own the copyright to the music, the recording and the photos. Image post and video art were appropriated from the original album. This video is posted for educational use under Section 17 U.S. Code § 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use. All posts are rendered in old school using restored vinyl LPs. This channel does not use recordings from CDs. As much as possible, I attempted to remove most of the pops and crackles from the original vinyl album. Some remastering was applied to make the performance cut through within the confines of the loudness wars. Hope you enjoy. INXDS. #jazzsuite #vinylrecord #bigband
