"How can being in touch with the history, nature and culture of a place make us care deeply about its fate?" Erica Wheeler, Singer/Songwriter & Sense of Place Educator (Colrain, Massachusetts USA) 12 October 2013 Erica is an award-winning singer/songwriter, & a 'sense of place' artist, speaker & educator. She works with the public and organizations to inspire a sense of place & belonging that is deeply needed in the world today. Her programs help us tap into our stories, memories & experiences, as well as knowledge of local or regional nature, culture, facts and events, to create the kind of personal bond with places that leads to caring & stewardship. She has delivered programs at parks, museums & learning centers across the United States, creatively evoking a sense of place in order to enrich lives & communities, empower creative story-making & inspire stewardship. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Erica Wheeler is an American folk singer-songwriter. She lives in western Massachusetts. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., she was exposed to traditional folk and bluegrass music in surrounding Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, which influenced her later style. She attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her songs such as "Rivers", "Spirit Lake", and "Maryland Country Road" draw on the natural beauty of the surroundings where she has lived.
