http://www.youtube.com/user/MarkOConnor Recently discovered video from 1992 of Mark O'Connor performing his "Caprice No. 3 in A Major" he had just composed for great violinist Eugene Fodor. You will notice that this version was still in the composing process as the final version recorded on "Midnight on the Water" is changed in a few sections. Mr. O'Connor reported years later that when Mr. Fodor was getting ready to record an album, he requested O'Connor to compose a piece for him that had "the virtuosity and passion of Paganini - but make it playable" he said. O'Connor decided that to be fair, he himself would have to be able to perform it successfully on stage, before giving it to Fodor. In the end, Fodor lost his record deal that year, and never recorded the album that would have contained this caprice. Mr. O'Connor often performed it on subsequent solo recitals and remains one of his most difficult pieces to play. (Caprice No. 3 in A Major can also be seen on the Mark O'Connor Youtube Channel in its final filmed version four years later!) O'Connor Method for violin, viola, cello and orchestra - A New American School of String Playing will feature all of O'Connor's caprices in repertoire volumes.
