A singer-songwriter and pianist, his music draws from classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, Motown, gospel, rock, blues, and jam band musical traditions. He has been awarded three Grammy Awards over the course of his career. The first, in 1987 for Best New Artist with Bruce Hornsby and the Range, the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album and the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. His 22nd album will be released later this month. Bruce has worked with his touring band Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers and his bluegrass project with Ricky Skaggs and has worked as a session and guest musician on countless recordings. He was a touring member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992. In 2004, Bruce invited Eric Clapton to join him in the studio. The result was three tracks on Bruce's album, Halcyon Days. Five years later, Eric played on the track "Space is the Place" from Bruce's album, Levitate.
