Scott Adams and Alex Newborn as "The Movie Hunters" (#5 and outtakes)

Bill Barnett originally wanted me as the bumpkin and Scott Adams as the pompous highbrow, but I said I'd be more comfortable as the Brit, and Scott said he could play either role. After Movie Hunters #4, we didn't do one for a while. For the fifth one, Bill expanded the format and did something he'd been trying to perfect for a while, an MST3K-style silhouette overlay. You're not actually seeing the backs of our heads, though. The way the monitor was arranged for us to watch the Sleepy Hollow clip, we had to sit with the bluescreen to our backs, so Bill had us swap sides as if it was looking over our shoulders, since the black silhouette was all that mattered. The telltale that you're seeing our fronts instead of our backs is that the buttons on my shirt 'keyed' a couple of times. I thought my ad-libbed riffing was really weak on this, but we didn't anticipate that this would turn out to be the final Movie Hunters installment. I really think we were just hitting our stride with the longer format, and I'm sure Bill had tons of ideas. I've also included some outtakes at the end. Some are from the original shoot for the opening montage. I love the ones where we're looking at rolls of film; it was stifling hot in that projection room, look at the sheen of sweat on my face! Others are outtakes from MH #1, and especially #3, which we had to ad lib because time was running out and we had to vacate the studio within a few minutes. There's some harsh language; that's why they call them bloopers. These were all the outtakes I've found so far... I'm sure there were more, but I may not have them in my private collection. For instance, I recall one thing I ad libbed for this segment: after Bobby Lee says "They never did tell me why it was called Bringing out the Dead", I said something about "Tsk. And you had the title role." Cut! Yeah, uh, Alex? That doesn't make any sense, say something else. LOL I still say Scott and I made a really good comic duo, with very complimentary timing. Wish we'd been able to continue this series. Enjoy!
