California Cotton Fields - Seldom Scene
June 8, 1996, at Lexington Kentucky's "Festival of the Bluegrass." Videotape shot and edited by Kentucky Educational Television (KET), directed by Russ Farmer. This has long been a favorite song of mine and many others. Written by Dallas Frazier in 1969, and quickly released also by Merle Haggard. This version of the Seldom Scene featured a lead vocal by dobroist Fred Travers, with harmony singing by John Duffey and Dudley Connell, plus the wonderful banjo picking of Ben Eldridge and fretless bass work by Ronnie Simpkins. A first-rate job!
