The Strokes Song Julian Casablancas Fixed with the Voidz
The are few Strokes songs that bothered Julian Casablancas enough that he changed them. We'll look at "Ize of the World", which is rumored to be one of Casablancas' favorite Strokes songs, and what he changed from the Strokes version to the Voidz touring version. We'll look at a quote from an interview to ask what bothered him. In considering this, we can get a better sense of Casablancas' musical vision. What this says about him might surprise you. We look at the guitar, bass and keyboard parts, noting how it becomes a (vi ii V I) progression when played by the Voidz, rather than a (i iv v III) progression by the Strokes. The alternate version has stronger harmonic resolution, but is more conventional. The main difference is a B6 chord, rather than a G# minor chord. #thestrokes #thevoidz #juliancasablancas
