Navneet Aditya Waiba - Udho Jada

Udho Jada is the plaintive lament of a newlywed, who misses her young husband who has left their mountain home and travelled to the distant plains, in search of work. Everything reminds her of the passage of time and how intensely she misses the simple gestures of affection. Seeing a blossoming flower, she bemoans the fact that if she plucks it, it will wither without someone to lovingly place it in her braids. She sings to us of the garden her husband planted for her and of how she has nurtured it with her tears. She tells us of the Mauri (bee) that secretly stole the nectar from the flowers in her garden, before the Bhawara (Bumble bee), even had a clue. The song is full of symbolism. The passage of time is beautifully described in how the seedling (chitu changay biruwa) that she passed on her way downhill has turned into a bud (kopila) by the time she makes her way up. The deep regret of fading youth is captured by the stealing of nectar from flowers at their prime by a common bee (mauri) while the bhawara (the rare mountain bumble bee) misses it all and is clueless. Bhawara here symbolizes her young husband.
