About Mary Johnson (singer)

US blues and gospel singer, born c. 1900 in Eden Station, MS, died July 20, 1983. Johnson recorded blues 1929-1936; her recordings after 1943 was exclusively gospel songs. She was married to singer and guitarist Lonnie Johnson (2) 1925-1932. One of their children is [a3725242]. Performed but never recorded a song named "Baby Please Don't Go", hence she is sometimes incorrectly credited for writing the classic blues song recorded by Big Joe Williams.
